1. Make the Wheatpaste:
Ingredients: You'll need flour and water. A common ratio is 1 part flour to 4 parts water.
Preparation: Mix the flour and water in a bowl until smooth and lump-free. This should resemble pancake batter.
Cooking: Heat the mixture in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring to a gentle boil until thickened.
Optional Additions: Some people add sugar or a bit of Elmer's glue for extra stickiness.
Cooling: Let the paste cool down completely before applying it to the posters.
2. Prepare Your Posters:
Use thin, uncoated paper like 20-pound bond paper. This allows the paste to seep through and create a stronger bond.
Ensure your posters are printed with high quality and a clear, concise message.
3. Applying the Wheatpaste:
Surface Preparation: Clean the surface where you plan to paste the poster.
Apply Paste: Use a wide paintbrush or a roller to apply a generous layer of wheatpaste to the back of the poster.
Press and Seal: Carefully press the poster onto the wall, working out any air bubbles. Then, apply another layer of paste over the poster to seal it.
Important Considerations:
Legality:
While wheatpasting itself isn't inherently illegal, wild posting (without permission) can lead to fines or other penalties.
Location:
Choose locations where the posters are unlikely to be removed or damaged.
Safety:
Be aware of your surroundings and avoid attracting attention, especially if you are engaging in wild posting.
Alternatives:
If you're looking for a more permanent solution, consider using wallpaper adhesive or other specialized adhesives.
